| Our Itinerary: Sunday, Oct 19, 2008 Depart Omaha and our overnight flight to Rome. Monday, Oct 20 Arrive Rome in the morning. We will be met by our old friend and great driver, King Robert, add a step on guide, and be whisked off for a ½ day tour of Imperial Rome. It will include stops at the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, Fountain of Trevi, Spanish Steps, and the Piazza Navona. Later in the day, we will arrive at our hotel where you can relax for the balance of the day. Tuesday, Oct 21 Today we will visit Vatican City. We will start with the Vatican Museum, which includes the stunning Sistine Chapel. Then on to Christendoms greatest church, St. Peters Basilica with its many treasures including the exquisite Pieta by Michelangelo. Wednesday, Oct 22 After breakfast, we get the thrill of seeing the wonderful art and sculptures of the Villa Borghese. We have reserved the rest of the day for you to explore Rome on your own. Thursday, Oct 23 We depart Rome this morning for the short drive to the Tivoli area. Here we will tour the Villa de Este with its 600 fountains that have been running for 500 years. Then on to Hadrians Villa where the Roman Emperor built a tribute to his mighty empire. You will then be treated to the beautiful countryside of Tuscany as we make our way to Florence. After we check into our hotel in the heart of the city, you will have the evening on your own. Friday, Oct 24 The day begins with a half day, guided tour of Florence, the home of the Renaissance. Youll see the great Duomo Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Piazza de Signoria, the Medici Chapel and much more. Florence is a compact walking town and you will have the afternoon to walk it and choose from a long list of sights and shopping. Saturday, Oct 25 Our guided tours today include the famous Uffizi Gallery, one of the great art galleries of the world, and then to the Accademia. This is Michelangelos Museum that holds the statue of David and many others of the sculptors works. There will still be time for you to explore even more of Florence on you own this afternoon. Sunday, Oct 26 After breakfast, we board our bus and drive south toward Naples. Beyond the Bay of Naples is the wonderful resort town of Sorrento. Our hotel is set on a hill overlooking the city and the blue Mediterranean. A very picturesque location with a wonderful swimming pool. It will be a great place to unwind in the afternoon and then take the bus to the heart of Sorrento for dinner and shopping. Monday, Oct 27 There is nothing, repeat nothing, like the Amalfi Coast. We will spend the entire day exploring it by bus and boat. Youll see the trendy resort town of Positano and equally beautiful town of Amalfi. Our trip back to Sorrento will be by boat along the craggy shoreline that makes this part of the world so famous. Tuesday, Oct 28 Today we will have a long look at Pompeii, the Roman city that was covered by an eruption of the volcano Vesuvius over 2,000 years ago. Extensive restorations of the city give us a unique view of Roman life. Your guide will take you to see all the best of Pompeii. Then its back to Sorrento for a relaxing dip in the pool and a leisurely dinner on your own. Wednesday, Oct 29 On this Grand Finale day in Italy, you can take the hydrofoil to the Isle of Capri, or take the train into Naples to see Italys famous museum of history. Or you can do nothing but add to your suntan by the pool and order snacks. We will have a big final dinner in Sorrento that night to celebrate one of the great vacations of your life. Thursday Oct 30 It will be an early departure for the drive back to Rome where you will board your plane for the flight to the U.S. We will arrive in Omaha in the evening. |
First Day in Rome. We arrived at 8:00 am and went directly to the heart of Rome. |
Here is Ceaser and shortly after I took this picture I caught Jan N. peaking under his skirt! Just kidding although she wanted to..=) |

Gallery of Maps by Michelangelo. |
The Pope was arriving the next day but we were leaving town. He called me and said he was sorry to miss us. |
Another blury one.. Geez, what was I doing the night before?? |
This statue was made by Michelangelo when he was 23 years old and took him about 8 months to complete. It's made from one solid piece of marble. The picture sucks but this statue was incredible. |
This picture looks pretty clear so I must be sobering up a bit from the night before. I hear churches will do that sometimes. |
The words near the ceiling are the names of the architechs that built this church. |
Insert angels singing here..aahhhhhhhhhh. Nice camera affect, eh? I love this picture!! |
This sculpture was ALL Granite! |
Outside the Vatican. |
AHHH, the Piazza Novonna. This is where the roman chariot races were held. Now it's where all the street artists sell their work. I purchased 3 oil paintings on canvas (Real Cheap!) and they are beautiful. Framing them will cost a fortune, tho. |
The Piazza Navonna at night! I purchased 2 paintings from the gent standing in the white shirt. |
The Pantheon. |
The Pantheon is the only church still standing after 2000 years. |
I told the waiter that if he gave us all a free glass of champaign we would eat at his resturant and he agreed! He even sang to us later in the evening. He earned a big tip for his hospitality. |
Our group is the ones on the left. |
The view outside my motel room. |
The Villa Borghesi gallery had all original and unmolested sculptures and paintings. These were by far the best sculptures I saw in Rome and is a MUST SEE! Unfortunately taking pictures was not allowed. |

Our guide, Amadeo Di Falco, was by far the best guide I have ever heard. He knew EVERYTHING. Well, except how they made the granite and marble so smooth..=} I think Jan N. is still thinking about the Ceaser statue. |

The first day in Rome we decided to venture out on our own. A bum was peeing in a bottle behind me ealier..Eeww.. |

Let the napkin folding contest begin! If you don't know what this is, think.... well look at the next picture then come back to this one. |
Most resturants had outdoor seating available and the evenings were pefect for eating outside. |
The 600 fountains are all gravity operated and have been flowing for 500 years w/o stopping. |
